Introduction and Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the homepages of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Social Sciences are concerned with the study of social processes, social institutions and the organisation of society. Important features of provision are the social, political, economic and legal aspects of social life, as well as issues of social diversity. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of theory and practice and on inter- and multi-disciplinary collaboration.

Social Sciences at Ulster have a long established reputation for the high quality of teaching and research.  The Faculty employs over 160 permanent members of academic staff including over 20 professors, together with research, administrative, technical and clerical staff. Currently, the Faculty offers programmes on three of the University’s campuses – Coleraine, Jordanstown and Magee. Some 3,800 students are registered on its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Course provision includes short courses, certificates, diplomas, bachelors degrees, masters and doctoral qualifications. The Faculty’s courses are available in part-time, full-time, mixed-mode and fast-track forms. Some at postgraduate level are available online. Postgraduate research degree activity is facilitated and supported through the Faculty’s Research Graduate School.

Further information on all aspects of provision is available on each of the School’s websites.
